Ask any visitor to Sharm El Sheikh what they consider to be the biggest attraction and they will invariably comment that it’s the fish and coral of the Red Sea. As divers with many years experience in the Red Sea we already know that it ranks among the top destinations in the world for fish and coral life. A typical remark from new visitors is, ‘it looks just like the brochure’. Well there’s no Photo-shop on Jackson Reef or Ras Nasrani; two very colourful reefs awash with fish and coral of every description. Many don’t use a camera; the real life images simply implant themselves in the mind for years to come.

Snorkeling is by far one of the most popular activities at Sinai Blues. There are a number of ways to take part; simple house reef snorkeling, a short trip out on a RIB to interesting and colourful nearby reefs or a day or half day trip on one of our daily boats where you can swim, sunbathe and relax in comfort. It is on these trips that you will see the marvels of the Red Sea in all its colour and rich variety.
We have a full range of masks, fins and snorkels for adults, children and infants and a large selection of lifejackets too. Trips are guided and under the supervision of trained instructors and surface support boat crew.

The subject of Red Sea marine life is often dramatically misrepresented by the media and frequently fuelled by speculation emanating from ignorance of how the underwater environment really operates. Monster movies and killer shark films are old, but scuba diving and snorkeling is relatively new by comparison. This unfortunate imbalance gave Hollywood a 30 year head-start in scaring us witless but some misconceptions remain. Of course diving and snorkeling just wouldn’t function if the myth represented reality, even by a fraction of a per cent! Different viewpoints often indicate a person’s pre-disposition to the aquatic realm. Some have never been in the sea, while others have much experience and are able to put matters into perspective. Despite the events during a single week in December 2010, the Red Sea is not full of tourist-attacking sharks. The circumstances surrounding this event are now well documented and largely attributed to the now criminal activity of feeding fish in Sharm El Sheikh. (This practice is now greeted by jail and a massive fine).

Normal marine life behavior has returned and there is a wide and far-reaching effort to remind visitors on how to interact when immersing themselves in the Red Sea. Nothing attacks us unless we cause it to. Fish-feeding, harassing species, venturing out to blue water or acting in a manner that may be misinterpreted by an aggressive animal are all things our guides will tell you to avoid when snorkeling. Stick to the recommended guidelines and you will enjoy hours of safe swimming.
